This is B2B iPad application was made in KOTELOV for S7 Airlines company. We have been tasked with creating a massive system (11 integration systems, backend, frontend, analytics, design) to eliminate paper-based materials (weighing over 10kg per flight) in the work of flight attendants and to allow the crew to greet passengers with full information about them in order to provide a unique service on board the aircraft.

That’s me designing this app :)

Problem

Previously, flight attendants had to carry over 10kg of paper and spend a lot of time manually filling out documents, such as reports, passenger information, cabin crew information, and more.

Research and pain points

The main task of the redesign was to identify features that could be improved and aligned the UI with S7 branding. To achieve this, I interviewed flight attendants and the product owner to understand which aspects required improvement.

Furthermore, I had to learn many new flight terms. Without them, it would have been impossible to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Here are the insights I gained:

  1. In the previous design, flight attendants could only see the flight time in preview and had to download additional information;

  2. Sometimes, dangerous cargo is transported on planes. It is important for the flight crew to have this information displayed on the main screen because this type of cargo has specific transportation requirements;

  3. At the start of the flight, the welcome information was only in Russian. If a passenger didn't speak Russian, the flight attendant had to open another document and read the info in English. We combined both versions on one page in the app;

  4. There is no waybills feature that allows control spendings and optimize savings;

  5. New flight attendants may find it difficult to understand some of the features of this app in terms of User Experience.

Product Ideas

This will suggest the selected food for the next flight immediately. It will helps to create unique and personalized service on board;

  1. Add waybills page. Waybills help to account for consumables spent on the flight and significantly increase savings on procurement;

  2. Add documents in two languages: Russian and English;

  3. Sort cargo depending on is it dangerous or not. Also display the presence of dangerous cargo using the icon on the main page of the flight;

  4. App got their main navigation at the top side, so it’s always hard to switch a tabs because you have to reach for them.

User Interface

Flight schedule

The flight attendant can preview all of their flights for today, as well as past and future flights, in a horizontal carousel. Before opening a flight, they need to download it. Additionally, there is an opportunity to change the time to UTC or local.

Flight page

I improved the Flight page by increasing whitespace to make it easier to read information. I also made the departure and arrival times more descriptive and easier to understand. Additionally, I moved the "Reports" section from this page to a separate tab at the bottom navigation bar. This change was made because flight attendants only fill out these reports upon arriving at the destination point.
